Event Information
Dear Fellow Re-enactors;
We
are pleased to announce the Fire
on the Genesee Committee has been invited to sponsor the seventh
re-enactment by Letchworth State Park this coming year. The date has
been set for May 19th to 21nd, 2006. We will
be at the Mt. Morris end of the park, the Highbanks Recreation Area.
This offers us two battlefields to work with. We are able to dig
fire pits and have more parking. Modern camping is close to
everything. The park comes with full use of the park facilities (hot
showers, flush toilets). Wood, Straw, Hay for horses and water is
provided. This year
there will also be a Food
Vendor, which will be open Friday night, and Saturday and
Sunday from breakfast till dinner. Letchworth State Park is located
in Livingston County, is 65 miles south of Rochester, New York.
The park is the home of Camp Williams from
which the 130th New York (later known as 1st
New York Dragoons) and 136th New York units mustered out
of. The park is dedicated to helping to preserve these units history
within the park.
The reenactment will include a open-field
battles each day, all day living history, and a full slate of
civilian activities. One Civilian activity will be the dance
on Saturday night after the Community Dinner. Each family is asked to bring a dish to pass. The
meat and drink will be provided. Please indicate on your
Registration Form who will be participating. We will have both
authentic and modern camps.
This is the seventh year of this event in the
park, so we have a unique opportunity to educate the public about
the Park's role in history. For this reason we are emphasizing
authenticity, re-enactor and public interaction. Your ideas and
scenarios are welcome, so we want everyone to come out and enjoy the
experience. Come help make this one of the best events in Western
New York. It is also asked that you leave your politics at home. If
you have any suggestions that may help please include them with your
registration.
We will also have a Chinese auction. If you
would like to donate an item please note this on registration form.
Thank you.
